This book reading list template holds books you may read next. You can remove a title or move it later without marking it as unfinished reading. Add a reason beside each book, such as a club date or a mood you want. That reason makes choosing easier when several titles compete.
Choose Letter for US Letter paper or A4 for A4 paper. Each file uses the preview's field names and leaves its rows empty. The CSV is a plain editable table with the same column headings. Start with the details you know. Keep optional fields blank when they do not serve your reading task.
Using the book reading list template
Keep priority separate from status. Next, Later and Maybe express order; Considering, Reserved and Ready express what has happened. If a library hold arrives, move that title forward without rewriting the whole sheet. A list can remain short enough to scan before a library visit.
Write a reason in your own words instead of copying a promotional description. It might be as brief as "same setting as our trip" or "a friend wants to discuss it." If the reason no longer matters, remove the entry. Once you start reading, move the title to your reading log rather than turning every planning column into a history field.
Field guide and print setup
- Title: The name on your chosen edition.
- Author: The author or credited creator as named on the book.
- Format: Print, eBook, audio or another format you plan to use.
- Priority: Your order of choice, rather than a measure of book quality.
- Reason to read: The reason this possibility belongs on your current list.
- Status: Your own consistent label for the reading stage.
Open the paper file before printing and check that the first and last row are visible. Use actual size when possible. The regular log has no cutting or scale-sensitive parts, so a small fit-to-page change is acceptable if your printer needs it. Keep a spare blank master instead of erasing a filled sheet until it is hard to read.
For the CSV, create a new sheet and import the file as comma-separated text. It has a header row and no sample people or books. If a spreadsheet changes a date you enter, set that column to plain text or choose a clear date format. There are no macros, scripts or external connections in the download.
FAQ
Can a book stay unfinished?
Yes. A record can say Paused or Stopped. You do not owe the sheet a finish date. Keep the title if it helps you remember why you put it down, or leave that row out of a paper copy you share. A log records a choice; it does not grade it.
Is this the same as a reading challenge?
No. A challenge supplies rules or prompts for choosing books. A log holds the titles and notes from reading you actually did. You can use both, but they have different jobs. Keep your log plain if adding more goals makes it harder to return to a book.
