‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ announced for 2014 release

We are less than two months away from the highly anticipated release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, based on the bestselling series from Cassandra Clare. Now Shadowhunters have even more to celebrate with the official news that an adaptation based on the second book in the series, City of Ashes, is due out for a 2014 release.

Early this morning producer Martin Moszkowicz of Constantin Film made the announcement on his Facebook page:

“The Mortal Instruments – City of Ashes set up for worldwide distribution in 2014. Bye, bye Cannes…”

Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, who play Clary and Jace in City of Bones, are already on board for the second film, along with director Harald Zwart.

Yesterday we reported the change in release date for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The film was originally set for an August 23 release, but will now hit theaters two days earlier on August 21. A couple of months ago we learned that Constantin Film is working to adapt Clare’s related series, The Infernal Devices, for film as well.

While the official announcement of City of Ashes coming our way is no surprise, it is nice to know we will only have about a year to wait in between the first and second film.

Does this make you more anxious for the City of Bones release this August? How successful do you think the film will be in theaters?
