Fancast Friday – ‘The Red Pyramid’ (‘The Kane Chronicles Series’)

It’s Friday, and all I can think is TGIFF: Thank God It’s Fancast Friday! This week, when I stole the feature from the rest of the staff, I was quite excited to bring my newest idea to light, because today we’re fancasting The Red Pyramid. I’m a fairly big Rick Riordan fan, even if I’m not the biggest fan of the previous adaptations of his work. Lightening Thief, enough said. Though the one thing that Lightening Thief had going for it was some pretty good casting. I was a very big fan of Logan Lerman as Percy. So as I endeavour to capture another one of Riordan’s worlds, I want to make sure my casting is just as good.

One note though, because Percy and crew had their ages advanced a few years, I did the same for the Kane characters. As it takes place in the same universe, I thought the consistency was important.

Carter Kane —  Justin Martin

Justin Martin

Justin Martin isn’t the biggest name on the acting scene, but he does have some impressive titles under his belt. The eighteen year old has appeared in The Soloist, High School Musical 3, The Express and most recently in Flight as the son of actor Denzel Washington. He’s certainly putting his name out and in a variety of roles, he’s able to play quite a few different characters. Carter is a character that has quite a lot of depth, especially as the only one of the Kane siblings that actually can remember their mother. As a versatile actor, Justin would be an excellent candidate for Carter.

Sadie Kane — Madison Pettis

Madison Pettis

Probably best known for her time on the Disney show Cory in the House, Madison is just about perfect for Sadie. Though she lacks the blue eyes Sadie is said to have, we can all look past that right? We looked past Harry’s eyes for eight movies, after all. What Madison does have that makes her a good idea for the role of Sadie is a unique combination of adorableness and spunk. And I have no doubt that she’d be able to pull of being fierce when the time is needed.

Amos Kane — Chiwetel Ejiofor

Jesse Grant

Ejiofor is a Golden Globe award winning, BAFTA nominated actor who’s been in great works such as Tsunami: The Aftermath, American Gangster and 2012. Though the nerdier among us probably know him as The Operative in Serenity. That was certainly my first introduction to him, at least. But when I though of who could play Amos, his face was actually one that came to mind quickly. Ejiofor is an amazing actor, if his awards and nominations tell you nothing else. So perhaps he’d be too busy playing Golden Globe roles to do this part, but I can only hope, right?

Bast — Nazanin Boniadi

Nazanin Boniadi

Fans of How I Met Your Mother, will know her as Nora, Barney’s season six love interest. Though she’s also appeared in Grey’s Anatomy and Iron Man. The Iranian British doctor turned actress is beautiful and alluring. She’ll certainly steal any scene, just as Bast does. And I’m not just saying that because Bast is one of my favourite characters in the series.

What do you all think? Even more important: Who should play Zia? I scoured the internet for the perfect girl to play Carter’s love interest and had absolutely no luck! Do you all know of anyone that could pull of such an important role? If so, please share.

"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love." --- Albus Dumbledore

To me, love is the joy of storytelling, the act of empathy involved in viewing another world and taking the time to imagine the world a bit more complexly. From Harry Potter, to nerdfighteria, to whichever show is catching my recent fancy, I am a fangirl for the pure unapologetic delight of loving something.

I don’t think that Madison looks like Sadie kane. Sadie has blond hair not brown
