Description

1876 American Revolution 1ed John Burgoyne British Army MAPS George Washington

John Burgyone was an 18th-century British royal officer who served during the Seven Years' War. It was, however, his role in the American Revolutionary War that brought him his fame. His lack of quick decision making allowed American forces in New York to reunite, eventually surrounding Burgyone and the British Army forcing them to retreat – a critical turning point in the war.

Author Edward Barrington Fonblanque published an account of Burgoyne's life and role in the Revolutionary War – "Political and military episodes…of John Burgoyne". This work includes a facsimile of the correspondence between Burgoyne and George Washington along with two impressive folding maps! This 1876 first British edition was published on the centennial anniversary of America's declaration of independence.
