George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1957. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG+/VG+. A 1957 First Edition three volume set comprising 7th/5th/3rd Impressions. All bound in red cloth with gilt spine titles, all with the map at the back and red tint to the top of the text block. Each has its original dust jacket (now protected in a removable, clear cover) with the impression statement on the front flap of the first two and on the spine of the third matching the impression stated on the verso of the title page. All volumes have lovely condition cloth with bright gilt titles; each text block is firm and square and there is some light splash marks to the red top-stain. Internally, there are no previous owner names, bookplates or inscriptions and the pages are clean. Each jacket is in very good condition, generally very clean with no tears and only the smallest of creases at the extreme spine tips, to a greater extent on vol. 1. The spine panels are uniformly toned; the spine titles remain readable though the red titles are faded. In all, a highly presentable early set.
